As every year, the various analysis firms (Gartner, IDC, Idate …) unveil their forecasts on the most promising technologies and innovations. We have selected five.
1 # – Artificial intelligence
Rightly or wrongly, more and more companies are interested in AI. The expression a little “catch-all” artificial intelligence has been defined in ISO 2382-28. It is the “ability of a functional unit to perform functions generally associated with human intelligence, such as reasoning and learning.” There are two sub-categories of AI: Machine learning (ML) and Deep learning (DL).
The ML is the learning ability of a machine (in the broad sense of the term) to propose conclusions and interpretations that specialists (data scientist in particular) will have to validate.
With DL, it comes to reconstruct a phenomenon (eg a word) from multiple letters, like scrabble. So we start with the simplest words before moving on to more complicated. To meet this challenge, we use hundreds or even thousands of processors operating in parallel.
By using big data tools, machine learning, and cloud resources, companies can, for example, better understand their customers’ expectations or identify a strong market trend. This machine self-learning capability provides more efficient, reliable and personalized responses.
For Gartner, the AI has become the next big battleground on a wide range of software markets including ERP.
2 # – The blockchain
Distributed over the Internet, a “chain of blocks” is an orderly, decentralized and tamper-proof database thanks to cryptography. Each user of a Blockchain becomes a trusted third party. No central organization governs its operation. What reinforces authentication and traceability in many areas.
This ordered database makes it possible to certify all the information and make it indisputable. The integrity of the chain is guaranteed by cryptography. Any “legitimate” or “illegitimate” modification is detectable by all.
3 # -The Cloud and Edge Computing
At first glance, these two notions seem antithetical. On the one hand, the cloud can centralize data in a data center so that each business can access it at any time.
On the other hand, Edge Computing is about processing data near the edge of its network, where the data is generated, not in a data center.
We will not recall the benefits of the cloud that have been detailed on our blog. We will instead present the advantages of the Edge Computing. The main thing is to speed up data flows, including real-time data processing without latency. This, in fact, reduces the bandwidth requirements for sending and receiving information.
For Gartner, Cloud and Edge Computing can complement each other. According to an IDC (International Data Corporation) report, by 2019, 45% of the data created by the Internet of Things will be stored, processed, analyzed and implemented near or at the edge of the network.
4 # – “Smart” automation
Gartner defines intelligent automation as a generic term that covers a variety of skills, strategies, tools and techniques. They are used by service providers to eliminate or limit the use of manual tasks, increase reliability and reduce delivery costs.
According to these analysts, the costs of basic services will decrease by 15 to 25% per year until 2021.
In particular, it allows the administrator to efficiently deploy scalable workloads without a proportional increase in staff. But beware, automation of bad processes can quickly cause chaos …
5 # -The 5G
With this fifth generation 5G, it will be possible to have a bitrate of 1 Gbit / s for download and 500 Mbit / s to send files. For now, it is not yet marketed in France. Arcep, the regulator of telecoms authorized life-size tests in 9 cities.
According to a report by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the fifth mobile generation will revolve around three major uses:
Communications between multiple connected devices and sensors with varying quality of service requirements. In this category, we find home automation, the smart city, the Internet of Things, GPS navigation that will be optimized with the triangulation of 5G relay antennas …;
Very high-speed connections inside buildings and outdoors with quality requirements, no matter where you are.
Hyper-reliable exchanges for critical needs with very low latency (less than one millisecond). This family includes industrial applications, security systems … Coupon: XSY9R
